Maps

I’ve always loved maps. I used to study the atlas when I was in primary school and learn all the capital cities of distant countries. Hello Moon in Sagittarius! Later when I became an outdoor educator I was teaching kids how to read a map and work a compass to navigate routes on hiking and paddling expeditions. I often dream of maps, like when I’m on a dream journey I will zoom right out and see where I am and where I have to go on a particular map. As a keen hiker myself I have a hike bucket list. I’ve studied the maps of places I have yet to step foot. I know the distances and how long it will take me, I know the terrain, the campsites.

These days I have learnt the language of a different kind of map, the astrological birth chart, the map of our psyche and our soul. From this I know who I am, where I’ve come from and where I’m going. All the timings specific transits (seasons of life). Knowing isn’t enough.

The most important thing to remember about maps is that THE MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY.

The map is literally a piece of paper or digital image of a bunch of lines and symbols. Don’t confuse the representation or model with actual reality.

Even with a map, you can still get lost. Like the time I walked a group 10km in the wrong direction, led astray by an old map showing what was no longer there. Imagine being so sure of yourself, an ego so big that the compass is wrong and you are right. Even though my nav skills are much sharper since that learning experience. It is still important to note how easy it is to ignore red flags and find yourself a long way down the wrong paths in life.

As an Astrologer I have trained and studied to be able to interpret a birth chart. Birth charts map out your most aligned path forward. Through following that direction is not alway easy, the path of least resistance is oh so tempting. And most of us, including me often stray from that path even when we know deep down we are going the wrong way.

Yes maps are handy to guide you where you need to go. But there comes a point where you have to pack your pack, fly or drive to the place you want to explore, lace up your boots, tuck the map away and actually put one foot in front of another and head off on into the unknown.

So as an astrologer I can interpret your chart for you and tell you what direction your soul yearns to go. I can empower and motivate you toward that direction. Though, at the end of the day YOU have the take the uncomfortable steps into the wilderness that is life.

Birth chart is the map.

Heart is your compass.
